Breaking Ideas 3 - Write what you know

Write what you know, you can make stuff up but it wont connect unless it actually happened to someone else.

This goes back to what does it mean to create and focus how we plan to create. Define what can be done, how people believe in the work and keep creating.

Writing in general is challenging people to stay and read the entire piece. Creating a novel is an endeavor that last several pages of keeping the reader interested and the techniques can be applied to articles that need to be done a daily basis.

Most of the information we receive are reading the news or social media with text that supposed to attain the attention. The emerging tech of video is becoming more prominent for information gathering which is not a bad for written work. Writing text can be transformed into someone creating a video speaking the words that can be more fun to watch and listen verses reading on the night commutes.

Writing can be used in all types of media and it is an important skill overall. One way to get better at writing is to practice writing, keep writing for blogs or short stories that tell the information in a effective way. Comics, short films, tutorials, education and entertainment are areas that can be explored where writing skills are the most useful.

The reason people create has a purpose they want to gain through practice. They want to spread awareness for cancer research or be entertaining because they like making short films to where people wait and enjoy that work. People make stuff as general as that line makes it gives purpose and there is feedback of support keeping that feeling alive.

Finding the time to write that script are the downtime like breaks at work, on a phone during commutes or hour before bed with time looking at google researching the subject. There are tools that help save the hard earn work and how to check spelling when it is needed the most for that important email or social media post. These are possible moments building towards that goal making that chance to have a career full time creating.

If the time is not there then it has to change. Observing the surroundings how any of this can be possible to make time to take notes, pictures or simple reminders where you can pick up another time. People have jobs that take most of their day and little time to focus the side projects. That is understandable but that is hitting another subject about work life balance.

Change is possible by being ready to change and looking for that opportunity.

It is possible to start those side projects and having the time to practice. The small amounts of time can be explored by any method even taking a picture for that Instagram post.

Clickbait is also a challenge that misleads to other type of information. Creating a piece that  interesting at first glance is the overall challenge. Finding that topic and making the words compel people to click or else they move onto another area. Research is crucial to find the open market or a genre that has yet to be explored.

Someone watching LOST for the first time in 2018 and finding all these extra information from their perspective.

Curation is a factor to consider where content will live on a popular platform or creating that platform for better insight. Aggregation websites that develop communities building an audience and then presenting content in front of possible viewers is useful and powerful. These type of platforms are specific in genre or when a platform specific like YouTube is all video base and that is the only way to make content.

Creating content is hard, the amount of places to learn how to make content is steadily available. The idea that people making content everyday is amazing, the hard work developing the skills to adapt new technologies and how people interact with the content.

Throughout how people are able to write and make content is what defines their work and how they define themselves. When YouTubers make a video it is easy to tell what type of person they are when they speak or the visuals that “say” what is happening on screen. When making content it has to looked at multiple aspects to define the work of how it reaches the audience or how the viewer will react. Reaction videos are one example of that type of feedback even as it repurpose other work into new content.

Making unique work is hard and it challenges those who want to go down that path.

At the top of this piece write what you know applies to everything. All the examples are what I have done and currently facing and knowing the challenges ahead to make these side projects successful. If none of this is applicable I hope it can lead to what the entire piece is defining the hard work others have done to be where they are.

My goals are to make my own short film and work on other video productions building the skills to have a career in that field one day.

If there are crowds of people who enjoy what has been made then it can be successful to that perspective. There is a chance to grow a community and build a platform that can be used for other opportunities. Hard work does pay off and it how we define the goals are what we want to reach one day.

Thank you for reading, Peace!
