These are pictures from a Portuguese bull fighting tournament. The location took place in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada.
It was during the beginning of summer where the tournament was held for over five hours on a single day. The lighting and shadows were great due to long sunset period. Also know as the magic hour in photography.
I did take these photos free handed with my Nikon D5100/18-55mm lens while moving to several locations within the stands.
The trick for the actions shots for example, the bull flinging a participant over its head was to have patience and read the patterns. The tournament has a procedural pattern of how each round is conducted.
By understanding the rules you can understand how and when to take shots. This work best in sports such as hockey and basketball where you know the direction the players should be moving and plan ahead.
No bull were harm during the tournament.
